FCC Proposes Ban on Chinese Tech Imports

Tech News 3 hours ago 299 Views

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States has proposed a stricter measure against technology equipment manufactured in China. According to this proposal, even previously approved Chinese devices might be considered for a complete ban on imports into the U.S. This is seen as the latest step in Washington's series of security measures against Chinese technology. In 2021, the FCC included Chinese companies such as Huawei, ZTE, Hytera, Hikvision, and Dahua on the “Covered List,” stating that their products pose a threat to American national security.

Additionally, in November 2022, the FCC halted approval and sales of new devices from these companies, and the current proposal aims to extend the ban to devices that were previously approved.

The FCC states that such actions would help reduce risks and protect communication networks and data systems in the U.S. However, even if this law is enacted, the FCC notes that the public will still be allowed to use currently deployed devices. Yet, imports of new devices could be stopped immediately. This move aligns with other recent U.S. actions, including the December 2025 ban on Chinese drone imports and new restrictions imposed last week on Chinese-made routers. Amid this situation, the Chinese company Hikvision has filed a lawsuit against the FCC decision, accusing the commission of overstepping its authority. However, a U.S. court rejected Hikvision's earlier request in 2025. Analysts suggest this new proposal could further escalate the ongoing technological conflict between the U.S. and China and impact the global tech market.
