Meta Pauses Ray-Ban Glasses Rollout

Tech News 27 days ago 14865 Views
Meta has announced a temporary halt to the global rollout of its Ray-Ban Display smart glasses due to high demand and inventory shortages in the US market. Initially, Meta planned to launch these smart glasses in countries like the UK, France, Italy, and Canada by early 2026. However, they have now decided to prioritize fulfilling orders in the US first.
Meta stated, "This is a first-of-its-kind product, meaning it is the very first of its type, and the inventory is extremely limited. After the launch, we received more interest than expected." Additionally, Meta confirmed that the waitlist for the Ray-Ban Display glasses has been extended through 2026.

What Are Ray-Ban Display Smart Glasses?

These smart glasses are a product developed by Meta in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica’s Ray-Ban brand.

These glasses offer features such as:
• Photo capture
• Audio and content streaming
• Voice commands to interact with Meta’s AI assistant. Since they look like regular Ray-Ban sunglasses, they are popular as a wearable device that can be worn daily without the bulkiness of a headset.

According to Francisco Jeronimo, VP of Devices Data and Analytics at IDC EMEA:
• 15,000 units were sold in the first quarter after release
• Meta has captured a 6% market share in the smart glasses category. This is considered a strong early success for Meta within the industry. EssilorLuxottica officially announced plans to accelerate production capacity for the smart glasses business by October 2025, indicating that the current shortage of Meta Ray-Ban glasses is likely a temporary issue.

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Meta:
• Announced a teleprompter feature for Ray-Ban Display glasses
• Enabled note reading
• Allowed scrolling using the Meta Neural Band wristband
• Expanded the pedestrian navigation feature to four cities: Denver, Las Vegas, Portland, and Salt Lake City
• The total number of cities where this navigation service is fully available is now 32
Meta is actively working to build the future computing platform through devices such as:
• VR headsets (Quest series)
• Smart glasses
• AI wearables

The success of Ray-Ban Display glasses in the US will provide Meta with evidence on whether their current path is the right one.
