Amazon Pushes Kiro AI Tool
Amazon has decided to shift away from third-party AI tools and begin using its own tool called Kiro. The company has instructed its engineers to avoid using popular AI coding tools such as OpenAI, Anthropic Claude Code, and Cursor. This move is part of Amazon’s effort to expand the adoption of its own AI coding tool, “Kiro,” which was launched in 2025.

Amazon has also stated that if engineers continue using other AI tools, the level of support provided by the company may be reduced. Promoting Kiro is a key step in growing Amazon’s internal AI ecosystem. According to Amazon, relying on third-party AI tools increases risks related to data privacy, higher API costs, and potential code leakage. Using an in-house AI pipeline owned by Amazon is therefore seen as a more secure and cost-effective approach. Additionally, in October 2025, Amazon updated its internal guidelines and marked the Codex tool with a “Do not use” tag. Industry experts believe this is a strategic move by Amazon to close the gap, as Google and Microsoft are currently ahead in AI research, coding tools, and developer ecosystems.
