Uber Eats Expands AI Delivery Robots
British media report that Uber Eats and Starship Technologies have begun expanding a new AI-powered delivery robot service in the UK cities of Leeds and Sheffield. This service is considered the world’s first project to fully automate short-distance deliveries within urban areas. The robots are designed by Starship Technologies and operate without direct human involvement. According to Uber, these robots are equipped with “Level 4 autonomy.”

With Level 4 autonomy, the robots can operate fully independently within pre-mapped areas, without human control. They function strictly within predefined instructions and boundaries. The robots travel at speeds of around 6 km/h and are capable of keeping food warm during delivery. So far, Starship robots have completed more than 500,000 deliveries across countries such as the USA, the UK, and Estonia.
Uber states that the goal of this service is to offer customers lower delivery costs while ensuring fresher food. However, the deployment and use of these robots must comply with specific legal and regulatory requirements.
